Om Puri, Veteran Actor And Padma Shri Winner, Dies Of Heart Attack At 66

Puri"s body is at his residence in Andheri and several Bollywood personalities have arrived to pay their last respects.

Puri was born in Ambala, Haryana on 18 October, 1950. His father worked in the railways and in the Indian Army. Puri has worked in numerous Indian films as well as films produced in the United Kingdom and the United States.

He graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He was also an alumnus of the 1973 class of the National School of Drama where Naseeruddin Shah was a fellow student.

He has been awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India.

Puri was best known for his roles in movies like like Ardh Satya (1982), Jane Bhi Do Yaaron (1983), Bhavni Bhavai (1980), Mirch Masala (1986) and Dharavi (1992).

Veteran actor Om Puri died after suffering a heart attack this morning. He was 66.

Filmmaker Ashok Pandit took to Twitter to announce Puri’s demise. ""Sad & shocked to know that versatile actor Om Puri jee has expired due to heart attack early morning today. #RIP.""

Om Puri final rites is to be held at Oshiwara Cremation ground at 6.00 pm.

Bairavaa joins 100 Crore Club
