Om Puri, Veteran Actor And Padma Shri Winner, Dies Of Heart Attack At 66

Puri"s body is at his residence in Andheri and several Bollywood personalities have arrived to pay their last respects.

Puri was born in Ambala, Haryana on 18 October, 1950. His father worked in the railways and in the Indian Army. Puri has worked in numerous Indian films as well as films produced in the United Kingdom and the United States.

He graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He was also an alumnus of the 1973 class of the National School of Drama where Naseeruddin Shah was a fellow student.

He has been awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India.

Puri was best known for his roles in movies like like Ardh Satya (1982), Jane Bhi Do Yaaron (1983), Bhavni Bhavai (1980), Mirch Masala (1986) and Dharavi (1992).

Veteran actor Om Puri died after suffering a heart attack this morning. He was 66.

Filmmaker Ashok Pandit took to Twitter to announce Puri’s demise. ""Sad & shocked to know that versatile actor Om Puri jee has expired due to heart attack early morning today. #RIP.""

Om Puri final rites is to be held at Oshiwara Cremation ground at 6.00 pm.

64th National Film Awards 2017 Winners List

Si3 Joins 100 Crore Club

Singam 3 had terrific response on its opening day and is said to have collected more than Rs 20 crore. The film saw 90 per cent occupancy on Saturday and is said to have collected Rs 15 crore. Si3 had a record breaking opening weekend and netted Rs 25 crore in Tamil Nadu alone. Singam 3 is the successful franchise created by Hari. The first film in the series came out in 2010 and became a blockbuster. The second part also collected more than Rs 100 crore at the box office

Birth certificate of Dhanush is fake, claims elderly couple

An aged couple, who have claimed that popular actor Dhanush is their son, have accused him of producing a fake birth certificate before the Madras High Court bench here to get their case pending before a lower court at nearby Melur quashed. In their counter affidavit before the Melur Judicial Magistrate on Wednesday, R Kathiresan and Meenakshi submitted that they could prove their claim that Dhanush was their son, if the trial was conducted.
